Course Details

Founded in November 1913, Sunningdale Country Club draws its name from the esteemed Sunningdale Golf Club in Berkshire, England. Initially, members played on a leased nine-hole course in Mount Vernon, New York. In June 1916, the club acquired its current 149-acre Scarsdale property. Renowned architect Seth J. Raynor, with the guidance of Charles Blair Macdonald, designed the course, which opened in July 1918. However, due to concerns about blind shots, significant modifications were made under the direction of Walter Travis in 1920. Travis later enhanced the course with new greens, bunkers, and tees around 1919. In 1929, A.W. Tillinghast redesigned parts of the course to accommodate a swimming pool. Recently, from 2006 to 2016, Mike DeVries led a comprehensive renovation, focusing on green complexes to enhance the golfing experience while preserving the natural beauty and strategic challenges of the land.
