Since the 1960s, Stanwich has been a cornerstone of Connecticut golf, evolving over the years through enhancements by Tom Fazio and his team, all aligned with the club’s master plan focusing on tees, bunkers, greens, and mowing patterns. The most recent updates included a complete overhaul of five green complexes and the introduction of a brand new first hole. "The first hole was entirely reimagined," said Tom Marzolf, a design associate with Fazio. "Previously, it featured a sharp dogleg to the left, obstructed by numerous trees. Our goal was to enhance tee shot options and provide alternative strategies for navigating the hole. By reshaping the terrain to cut the inside corner, we've opened up views of the green, dramatically transforming the tee shot experience." While both significant and minor modifications are still planned for Stanwich, the course will continue to challenge players with its intricate design that demands accurate driving and precise approaches to well-guarded elevated greens.
