Course Details
For more than a century, Sullivan County Golf Club has carried golfers up, over, and along the rolling hills of Liberty, New York, just a short drive from the fields that once hosted Woodstock. The club has brushed up against history more than once—including a 1931 transatlantic flight bound for Denmark that took off from what was then the 8th fairway, now home to the club’s new driving range. Originally laid out by Maurice McCarthy and Len Rayner, Sullivan County opened in 1925 as the highest golf course in New York State. In preparation for its 100th anniversary, the course underwent a comprehensive renovation in 2024, featuring a fresh routing by Craig & Coyne Design. The updated SCGC now showcases two new par 3s with sweeping vistas and a new par 5 that unveils a dramatic mountain backdrop, along with upgraded green and tee irrigation, improved seeding and topdressing for smoother putting surfaces, and enhanced cart routing to tie the new holes seamlessly into the landscape.
