South San Francisco, CA

California Golf Club

The California Golf Club of San Francisco, often referred to as "Cal Club," is located in South San Francisco, California, and was originally established in 1918. Willie Locke and A. Vernon Macan were brought in by the members to design the original course, which officially opened in 1926. Alister MacKenzie later enhanced the course, redesigning the bunkers and at a handful of greens. In 2007-2008, Kyle Phillips led a comprehensive restoration, returning the course to its "Golden Age" design. This included clearing trees, creating five new holes, and reintroducing MacKenzie’s signature bunkering. Notable additions were the par-4 second hole on the old practice range and the dogleg-right par-4 seventh, set atop a previously unused mesa.
