Course Details
Few collegiate courses have origins as hands-on as Purdue’s Kampen Course. Pete Dye led the mid-1990s redesign, but Purdue students—most with zero construction background—supplied the labor that transformed the old, back-and-forth North Course into a showcase of his late-career ideas. Broad waste areas dotted with grassy moguls, fierce pot and trench bunkers, elevated greens set on diagonal lines to lurking hazards, par-3s that demand water carries, and a drivable par-4 with twin, mirror-image fairways wrapping a central sandy expanse all debuted here. Built on a tight budget, the work held special resonance for Dye, who first studied agronomy at Purdue before leaving a successful insurance career to pursue golf design.
